Donald Trump appears as a puppet on Italian prime time TV. He appears during the end song of the first episode of the new season of “Striscia la notizia”, a satirical prime time show broadcast on Canale 5, entitled “Dazi” (Tariffs). Gabibbo, an iconic Italian TV character who debuted on “Striscia la Notizia” on 1 October 1990, has revealed for the first time who is hidden inside: Donald Trump. The “Dazi” song satirically mocks the flaws of the global economy and Trump’s politics. One verse says: “It would be great if these rocket tariffs suddenly went up”.
Created by television writer Antonio Ricci, Striscia la Notizia has been broadcast on Mediaset networks since 7 November 1988. One of the longest-running programmes on Italian television, it blends current affairs, politics, and entertainment. Over the years, it has frequently targeted public figures and international leaders.
